    Stantec's Seattle office is looking for a Audiovisual Designer to join their growing team. This individual will be knowledgeable in the AV/IT technologies and trends. 

    Your Duties

    The Audiovisual Designer draws on strong buildings engineering skills and industry experience to consistently produce key project deliverables that meet project requirements and project manager and client expectations. Work consists of audiovisual systems design, engineering and collaboration, along with  the use of digital practice technology such as AutoCAD and Revit.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Project Involvement - approximately 95-96% of time.

    • With limited direction from a project manager, designs audiovisual systems for the built environment, including pathway drawings, low voltage device and telecommunications outlet plan drawings, systems single line drawings, power and heat calculations, budgets and technical specifications, as well as IT Systems requirements and/or designs as they pertain to the audiovisual system.
    • Applies strong technical skills and knowledge to produce accurate and timely deliverables.
    • Develops and prepares design documentation in written and computer-aided design formats.
    • Shares knowledge with more junior designers by serving as a trainer and resource.
    • Collaborates with project managers and other team members, including Acoustics, IT infrastructure and systems, electrical and mechanical engineering, architectural and interior design, as part of a coordinated design team.
    • Effectively delegates work to production support  team members.
    • Develops efficient and accurate solutions to design challenges.
    • Researches, prepares, and presents coordinated design options. 
    • Reviews drawings and researches code issues to comply with city, state, and county regulations.
    • Often interacts with key clients and project stakeholders.
    • Communicates with manufacturers and contractors to address challenges and develop practical designs.
    • Provides input on the creation and editing of technical specifications.
    • Provides contract documents that meet required codes and quality assurance standards.
    • Resolves design conflicts and questions and provides recommendations to address issues and add value.
    • Provides review, comment, and approval on submittals and Requests For Information (RFI).

    Performs onsite inspections and develops punchlist and site reports during construction.

    Learning/Maintaining and Expanding Technical Skills - approximately 4-5% of time.

    • Expands knowledge of technologies, trends and the markets in which we work as they apply to the applicable project types, and continually strengthens skills.
    • Proactively pursues additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in house and external training.




    Meetings, initiatives, and projects - approximately 1% of time.

    • Attends in-house project meetings.
    • Actively participates in meetings, initiatives, and projects that support Business Center and company goals.

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of audiovisual, CCTV, and CATV design principles .
    • Ability to prepare and review detailed design drawings with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to integrate design elements with architectural, civil, structural, telecom, electrical, mechanical and other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
    • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards including TIA/EIA and Infocomm standards and best practices.
    • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structure concepts and ideas into deliverables.
    • Ability to demonstrate a credible and trustworthy presence through professionalism and demeanor.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present accurate, professionally written reports and recommendations.
    • Understanding of interior acoustics as they pertain to audio systems functionality
    • Working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software; in particular, AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.



    Experience, Education, and Certification:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.) and 2-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. InfoComm CTS certification a plus.


    Auxiliary Qualifications:

    Qualifications listed below, while not necessarily a requirement for this position in each circumstance, provide additional depth and value to the role.

    • Professional experience in ICT design for the healthcare, higher education, military and/or life science environments.
    • Professional experience in the design professional contract document development and administration process. 
    • Familiarity with various construction delivery processes.
    • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
    • BICSI credentials, including RCDD.
    • Construction Specifications Institute credentials, including CDT


    Office Location and Schedule:

    • This position may exist at all Stantec BC 2048 and 2045 locations, including but not limited to Seattle, Lynnwood, and San Francisco, and requires an occasional presence in other offices, at project sites, and at meetings. Regional travel is required on a regular basis. Out-of-state travel may be required on occasion.
    • This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available.
