Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for an entry level position in water resources engineering in our Raleigh, NC office. This position will conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and water resource engineering in support of environmental and water resources projects, including FEMA Flood Insurance Studies. This individual will develop flood flow estimates and simulate the response of streams and rivers to flooding conditions throughout the country. This position will work with a team of engineers, scientists, GIS professionals and planners that are passionate about their work. Your Duties

  • Complete tasks assigned by project managers and work collaboratively with other engineers, GIS analysts and planners;
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support floodplain mapping;
  • Conduct watershed evaluations, storm water management and associated design reports;
  • Develop FEMA Flood Risk products and perform flood risk assessments;
  • Communication and collaboration with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities;
  • Occasional field data collection (e.g. GPS data collection);
  • Developing official correspondence for communities; and
  • Meet project management and quality control/quality assurance requirements of Stantec’s project management framework.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree;
  • EI (Engineering Intern) certification or capability to obtain EI within 1 year;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Familiarity with fluid mechanics, hydrology, and hydraulic processes;
  • Passion for water resources, flood risk reduction and computer modeling; and
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree;
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models, including HEC-RAS;
  • Proficient with ESRI software, including ArcGIS;
  • Knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program;
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email, and in person to internal and external clients.
