Your Opportunity

Our Water sector, which brings together many of the world’s top engineers and scientists, sees water a bit differently—as a single holistic system rather than as unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. We use this perspective to help communities tap into water’s potential. Throughout the life cycle of capture, use, reuse, and discharge, our team optimizes every facet of a water system. Whether a project calls for planners, designers, construction managers, or facility operators, we have the right experts to provide creative, yet practical, water solutions. Through our cost-effective strategies, we’re helping communities increase their water efficiency and protect their water resources for future generations. Join our team as we create new ways to tap into water’s vast potential.

Your Duties

The Sacramento, Calif., office of Stantec is seeking an entry-level Water Resources Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team of integrated water resources professionals, each committed to delivering sound and strategic consulting services to a range of local, regional, state and federal clients. Responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Gain and apply experience in California water resources including river systems/water-related infrastructure, applicable laws/policies/regulations, and understanding of operations of the Central Valley Project and State Water Project.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams on water resources projects throughout California and the western U.S.
  • Conduct technical evaluations supporting planning and design of water supply, flood control, and environmental restoration projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, project engineers and staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
  • Perform project administration including preparing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, completing progress reports, and conducting project management.

    • Water allocation, reservoir operation, water system hydrologic and temperature models.
    • Modeling the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
    • Development of criteria to evaluate system performance or ecosystem health.
    • Engineering feasibility analyses and design.
    • Hydrology and hydraulics.
    • Integrated water management in relation to the dimensions of water (surface water and groundwater, and quantity and quality), interactions with land and the environment, and interrelationships with social and economic development.
    • Planning, design, and construction of water/wastewater infrastructure.
    • Water/wastewater treatment processes.
    • Advanced and emerging technologies.
  • Valid California FE certification, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment, is desired.
