Your Duties

This full-time position will be based on-site at Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) located at 707 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland.

  • Primary responsibility will be to provide field audits of contractors paint removal operations and immediately notify the Remedial Construction and Paint Operations Division of any problems or potential problems requiring immediate action
  • Will advise the Remedial Construction and Paint Operations Division of corrective action which may be required
  • Prepare written reports, photo documentation and all test data and observations after each site visit
  • Perform required sampling and/or testing under direct supervision of a Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Observe air monitoring for worker exposure and verify testing of soil and water to determine compliance of the contract documents
  • Provide training services concerning safety awareness for lead removal operations for SHA personnel
  • Provide technical assistance to the State Highway Administration in writing specifications as it relates to environmental, waste handling and worker protection issues for future painting contract

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience with additional relevant certifications can be used in place of education
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ environmental experience with lead
  • Experience with lead paint removal on bridges or industrial projects
  • Prior experience, expertise and understanding to include sampling, testing and monitoring of air, water, and soil
  • Expertise and understanding with all Federal, State and Local regulations and be able to assist with program involving environmental protection, worker protection, containment and hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal
  • Capability to assist with training to other employees, contractors and other consultants for worker protection, environmental protection and waste handling requirements for projects preferably involving field cleaning and painting of structures with existing coatings containing toxic metals
  • It is a plus (but not absolute) that potential candidates have SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures
  • Assignments will require scheduled job-site travel in Maryland
  • Proficiency with portable computing devices (e.g., laptop/tablet PCs) is a must 
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Must be a team player and maintain a skillset and willingness to work with others
