Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for an entry-level Hydrogeologist for our Salt Lake City, Utah office. The primary focus of this position is to support Stantec’s Mid- and Senior-Level Hydrogeologist, Geologist, Geochemists, and Engineers with field investigations, data management and analyses, and report writing. Our Salt Lake City office serves regional and international mining and industrial clients. This position will require a dynamic individual who is flexible, learns quickly, can work independently, but also an individual who enjoys learning from others and who is comfortable asking questions. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with client and members of business and professional organizations around the world. Travel will be required and some projects may require working at remote sites or international locations for periods up to several weeks at a time.

Your Duties

Specific activities to be performed by the applicant may include:


  1. Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. MSHA and OSHA training will be required.
  2. Geologic logging and hydrogeologic testing on drilling operations.
  3. Aquifer testing in the field and data analysis.
  4. Groundwater data management, analyses, and presentation using various tools including GIS, Microsoft Excel, SQL database, Aqtesolv, and other statistical/environmental software.
  5. Prepare technical reports pertaining to field investigations and studies.
  6. Development of hydrogeologic conceptual model through report and data reviews.
  7. Development of numerical models for groundwater and vadose zone flow and transport using a variety of codes: MODFLOW (GMS/Groundwater Vistas), FEFLOW, HYDRUS, and/or SEEP/W, primarily focused on mining projects and industrial sites.
  8. Develop preliminary budgets, determine project scope, establish schedules, process appropriate paperwork, and interact with clients.
  9. Assist in preparation of proposals and preparing/providing presentations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials


  • A Master of Science in Hydrogeology or similar field with preference given to thesis-required programs.
  • Experience working on hydrogeologic or hydrologic field investigations either through employment, research, or course work.
  • Number of years of relevant employment: 0 – 3 years.
  • Ability to work independently in the field at remote sites.
  • Willingness to obtain professional registration (P.G.).
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, leadership, written and oral communication skills, as well as attention to detail.
