Stantec has an opportunity for an entry level position is water resources engineering. This position will conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and water resource engineering in support of environmental, transportation and water resources projects, including FEMA Flood Insurance Studies. This is an excellent career opportunity for an individual to join a team of multidisciplinary professionals in a fast paced, customer driven environment. Your Duties

This individual will develop flood flow estimates and simulate the response of streams and rivers to flooding conditions throughout the country. This position will work with a team of engineers, scientists, GIS professionals and planners that are passionate about their work. This is a great opportunity for someone wishing to pursue a career in engineering.  

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support floodplain mapping;
  • Conduct watershed evaluations, water quality monitoring, storm water management and ecosystem restoration design and associated design reports;
  • Develop FEMA Flood Risk products and performing flood risk assessments;
  • Develop construction plans, specifications and estimate of probable costs;
  • Communication and collaboration with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities;
  • Occasional field data collection (e.g. GPS data collection); and
  • Developing official correspondence for communities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree
  • E.I.T. (Engineer-In-Training) certification or capability to obtain E.I.T. within 1 year
  • Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills;
  • Familiarity with fluid mechanics, hydrology, and hydraulic processes
  • Passion for water resources, flood risk reduction and computer modeling; and
  • Ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks, concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic models, including HEC-RAS
  • Proficient with ESRI software, including ArcGIS
  • Knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program
  • Experience related to storm water management, Low Impact Development (LID) or ecosystem restoration design and watershed assessments
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; and
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email, and in person to internal and external clients.
