Overview:

Stantec's Support Teams provide Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Marketing & Communications, Risk Management, and Shared Services administrative support services to approximately 10,000 employees operating out of over 130 locations in North America. Responsibilities:

Stantec is seeking an individual to support and coordinate Stantec’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) implementation within the United States. You will provide a full range of health and safety duties including but not limited to:

  • Provide support to Stantec’s operations and support staff relating to HSE issues and initiatives.
  • Monitor HSE legislation, compliance status, workplace hazards, incident trends, program efficiencies, and internal staff and external client requirements to identify changes that may impact the HSE Program. 
  • Review HSE Program objectives and initiatives and provide recommendations to Leadership.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis on incidents and follow-up lessons learned.
  • Work with the HSE Manager to develop, implement and support policies, rules, practices, procedures and forms as required based on appropriate industry and legislative standards.  Specific HSE Program elements may include but not limited to the following:
  1. Notices, handbooks, and other reference material for distribution.
  2. Education and training programs for senior management, managers and workers.
  3. Safe work procedures and hazard control programs (engineering controls, administrative controls, personal protective equipment)
  4. Workplace exposure monitoring programs
  5. Loss Control Management, including Workers’ Compensation and incident investigation reports and procedures, records and statistics management, and return to work programs.
  6. Period-end and quarterly reporting procedures.
  7. Internal and external auditing procedures.
  8. HSE Committees and conference calls.
  9. HSE communication initiatives, including but not limited to newsletter articles, bulletin boards, written reports, and the company intranet.
  10. Reward programs that recognize workers for contributions to the HSE Program.


Qualifications:

To succeed in this role you will require:

  • A  degree or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the health and safety profession, preferably in the consulting engineering field.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • A CSP professional designation (candidates in the process of obtaining a CSP designation will be considered).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities and a willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Computer skills required include use of Microsoft Office and Access.

*The position can be based out of any of the following locations: Fresno, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, Irvine, and San Francisco.
